With the 1st XV gaining promotion to London 1 (South) at the end of last season, the 2015/16 season promises to be a very exciting one for everyone at Medway and there is a positive mood around the Club.
Medway’s Extra 1st XV (or ‘The Extra’s’ as they are known) provide the players for the club’s 2nd XV many of whom are challenging for a place in the 1st XV. Both teams train together in the ‘Senior Pod’ which ensures continuity of coaching as well as providing a challenging training environment where the younger players can learn from those with more experience. This season once again sees The Extras being looked after by Paul Essenhigh as Lead Coach with Steve Brightman as Manager.
The Extra 1st XV gained promotion to the very competitive Kent Invicta 1 league in 2012/13 and therefore have a full set of fixtures for this season which runs right through to the end of April. Steve Brightman, The Extras Manager, is confident that the team will do well commenting “We have a great mix of players in all positions and as we have such a strong Development Squad again this year, I expect to see some of those players staking a claim to start with The Extras during the course of this season.”
The Extras are a big part of the Senior Pod, and Geoff Kempt, Club Chairman, commented “We hope to do all we can to ensure that this season sees The Extras putting pressure on the 1st XV for starting places.”
Taff and his team are keen to hear from any new player. You will join a great bunch of guys who enjoy their rugby both on and off the field. Please call Taff on 07989 566848 or email him on email@example.com or come down to the club on a training night – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30pm until 9pm.
