With the 1st XV gaining promotion back to London 1 (South) at the end of last season, the 2018/19 season promises to be a very exciting one for everyone at Medway and there is a positive and energetic mood around the Club.
Medway’s Extra 1st XV (or ‘The Extra’s’ as they are known) provide the players for the club’s 2nd XV many of whom are challenging for a place in the 1st XV. Both teams train together in the ‘Senior Pod’ which ensures continuity of coaching as well as providing a challenging training environment where the younger players can learn from those with more experience. This season sees ‘The Extras’ being looked after by James Pearce as Lead Coach with Steve Brightman once again as Manager.
The Extra 1st XV gained promotion to the very competitive Kent Invicta 1 league in 2012/13 and therefore have a full set of fixtures for this season which runs right through to the end of April. Last season saw them finish 3rd in the league as well as winning the inaugural Invicta Cup with a very impressive win in the final. Extras Manager Steve Brightman is confident that the team will do well commenting “We have a great mix of players in all positions many of whom are providing a real challenge to established 1st XV players and I would expect to see a number of them in the first team during the course of the season.”
Steve and the club’s lead coach Taff Gwilliam are happy to hear from any new players who are keen to develop their game. You will join a committed and competitive group who enjoy their rugby both on and off the field. Please call either Taff (07989 566848 or email email@example.com) or Steve (07599 217548 or email firstname.lastname@example.org) or come down to the club on a training night – Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30pm until 9pm.
