Despite the current lockdown the club are still preparing for, what we hope will be, a full 2021/22 season. To that end we are pleased to announce that Mike Melford has agreed to join the coaching staﬀ for the forthcoming season. Mike lives locally in Medway and is working hard on developing his personal training business.
Mike, an accredited UKSCA coach, takes up the post of Medway RFCStrength & Conditioning Coach. Mike’s background is in Rugby. He is a now retired rugby player with an impressive playing CV. Having represented Kent and SE England at age group rugby he went on to University and played for a Loughborough 1st XVwho won the BUSA 15s and 7s.
Upon returning to Kent he spent 8 successful seasons at Canterbury RFC and also gained Senior representative honours with Kent in the County Championship. Having retired from competitive Rugby he spent a couple ofseasons playing for Medway helping the Development Squad before ﬁnally hanging up his boots for good.
Coach Taﬀ Gwilliam said, ”Mike is a quality addition to the Medway coaching staﬀ. We are already beneﬁtting from his expertise with the 1 on 1 zoom sessions he is currently running”. He added , “There is no doubt he will help improve our players both individually and collectively”
