This Sunday the Mighty Medway Under 12 Girls made the trip to Eaton Manor to take part in the last full festival of the year before the summer break. As usual the weather was windy with touch of drizzle, more of a problem for parents than players though.
First up was a great game against Enfield which could not have been closer with the game swinging back and forth before finishing as a draw.
After brief rest they took on a team from Welwyn which again was a very close encounter with both teams getting over the line several times before Medway succumbed to a late score to lose the game. We had never played this before and they were strong and well drilled, with another coach commenting on the day to lose by just one score against them was an achievement in itself.
The last game of the pool section was against was against a Southend team who were short on numbers. In the true spirit of our game some of the Medway girls swapped shirts and played against their team mates so that the game could go ahead. Our girls were in their stride by then and ran in comfortable winners.
The final game of a great afternoon was against the hosts Eaton Manor and again momentum swung back and forth with some great play on both sides. Much to everyone's delight and relief it was Medway's turn to score a late winner ending the day on a high.
This was a great event and produced several performances of the season from individual girls with impressive running, support and ferocious tackles. There was even time at the end to give birthday girl Kitty Collins the bumps. So much to be proud of by all parents and coaches over the day with the what remains the loudest most entertaining girls team there is.
