Whilst keeping the competitive nature of rugby, development is often more important than the win !
The Development Squad at Medway Rugby Football Club comprises of players aged primarily between the ages of 17 and 30. The squads principle aim is to provide teh transition between youth rugby and the senior teams at the club, it also provides a temporary home for returning injured players from the Senior ‘pod’ (First XV and Extra First XV) and for senior players needing to rediscover form. There are two key measures of success for the squad, first of which is player retention from youth to senior rugby, second is the development and transition of players into the two senior teams. If we get these two things right the results will follow. The squad is coached by Mark Errington and Gordon Stone and managed by Gary Crittenden.
The key message from the coaching team is to make the gap between the Senior pod and the Development pod smaller which will help to increase competition for selection across the Senior teams.
The Development Squad train at the club on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 7.15 pm. If you have never played before and want to learn the game or are a player who has just moved into the area or if you are returning to the game after a break, you are more than welcome to come along and join in. Contact Mark Errington or Gary Crittenden for more information.
