Before the match on Saturday, Taff was presented with a 30" photo canvas of the champagne-soaked occasion last season when the First XV clinched their third successive promotion as champions. It would be nice to think these memories inspired the team to victory over the league leaders, but it was more likely down to Taff's coaching and tactical acumen, and the players' skills and determination!
Our thanks to canvasRus.co.uk for kindly donating the superb quality photo canvas. Visit their website for more information and competitive prices.

Congratulations to the U14s Medway’s Under 14s reached the final of the Kent Cup, where they will play Old Elthamians in a fortnight’s time, with wins in the Qualification tournament on Sunday over Canterbury and Bromley in the group phase, hosts Westcombe Park in the quarter-final, and reigning Champions Sevenoaks in the semi-final. Full report.
U13s Medway RFC can be proud of its success in staging the Kent Preliminaries Under-13 Tournament on Sunday. With over 500 boys drawn from 25 clubs across the county, Medway played host to a wonderful spectacle. Thanks are due to the volunteers who generously gave of their time, while the boys from Medway's Under-13 squad are to be congratulated on winning their group to reach the quarter-finals of the cup. Defeat to Blackheath at this stage was disappointing, but all the boys can be proud of their success in reaching the top eight teams in the county. Paul Medhurst

Sunday's fixtures are off, but the Minis will train off-pitch at Priestfields instead.
Once again missing key players, Medway First XV nevertheless put up a strong challenge to promotion contenders Charlton Park. An evenly matched first half went to the visitors narrowly, 0 -5, and Medway were in the game right up till the last ten minutes when injuries and fatigue in the home defence finally allowed Charlton Park to scramble a couple more tries to win 22 - 0. Pictures. Selected prints for sale.

The First XV put recent reverses behind them with an emphatic victory over local rivals Old Gravesendians. Racing to an early 19 point lead, Medway stretched the visitors' defence by moving the ball wide and using thir pace, getting to haf time 24 - 5 in front. The second half followed the pattern of the first, and although OGs to their credit never let their heads drop and put the Medway defence under pressure periodically, it was Medway that put points regularly on the board, with the final score 41 - 5. As we speak, Tony Brown and co are finalising the final preparations for the eagerly awaited Cougars Quiz Night, taking place on Friday 19 February 2010. The doors of the club house will open at 7.30pm ahead of what promises to be a rich evening of entertainment and the usual under 16s high jinks, as the Cougars seek to raise money ahead of the 2010 Tour of Eire.
Teams should be between 4 and 8 players with entry fee, including food on the night, being £5 per competitor. So let's get behind the Cougars again and express our interest through Tony, Mark Marriott or Pat Nolan as soon as possible. Thanks one and all.
Kent honours for Development Squad playersTom Bourne, George Dyer and Joe Jelfs of the Development Squad were selected to play for Kent U18s on Sunday against the Belgium U18 National side, ranked 7th in the world.
Unfortunately Joe was injured earlier in the week (although he still attended on crutches), but Tom and George responded to short notice call-ups and travelled under the Channel to Mons for the game. George played the first half at tighthead, and Tom played the whole match at fullback, and was "almost" man-of-the-match according to Kent manager Ray Jelfs, but for an outstanding performance by the Kent scrum-half Jack Much.
The scratch Kent side, which included several U17s, put up an excellent display but lost the game narrowly, 3 - 0, to an early penalty. It was a physical, skillful game played in excellent spirit and accompanied by superb post-match hospitality by the Belgian hosts. Pictures.

Touch TriumphMedway RFC Touch Rugby brought home their first silverware on Wednesday night when they won the inaugural North Kent Touch Championships. Held in Erith teams from all over Kent took part but Medway Exiles and Medway Medway won their respective groups, and met in a tense, closely fought final which resulted in a 0-0 final score. The spoils were shared and MRFC were rightly crowned as top touch rugby club in the region.
Touch continues every Wednesday evening and with 25+ regular attendees its a great way to shake off the winter blues! If you want more information or to join in email touchrugby@mrfc.net
As you are aware we have been building on the partnership with London Wasps over the last season and have had some successes with the pre season summer training camp and the recent coach the coaches session held with Dave Larham who is an ex Wasps player and who now heads up the community partnership team.
We have also benefited from last year’s massively successful Match Day Coach class held for all the minis and youth age groups. Due to the large numbers who attended (approx 400) we have been able to secure another event which coincides with the game against Bath at Twickenham on Saturday 24th April 2010 which is fantastic news.
For anyone who wants more information on the Match Day Coach Class format a link to the Wasps web site is attached here. It will be a great day (hopefully enjoyed under some Spring sunshine!) and is nearer to get to then Wasps home ground. The training will also take place in the immediate vicinity to Twickenham stadium.
The event has already been announced on the Medway site but we would now like to get each age group to talk to the parents and children about registering for this from this weekend. The reduced tickets will also be available to any club member including the UMSA Spartans and senior and development squad players friends and family. Another announcement on the web site will be made on the 18th December to confirm that the event is now officially ‘open’!
It should be a great day and a unique opportunity to get some many of the club together at Twickenham on the same day.
The costs of the day are likely to be as follows (the coach price is the variable and will vary depending on numbers) – and training will commence at 12.30pm. This could make a great Christmas present to help offset any costs.
Per Child
Cost of Coach Class
& Match Day Ticket: £15
Coach Travel: £10
Per Sibling
Cost of Match Day Ticket: £5
Coach Travel: £10
Per Adult
Cost of Match Day Ticket: £10
Coach Travel: £10
We need to get final numbers in by Feb 14th so please can you talk to your age groups about the day. We will be in contact again in January to get provisional numbers. As an added incentive we have been provided with 2 free adult match tickets that will awarded at random to those that have registered by then.
We will also get a announcement on the message board for any general questions.

U6/7: On Saturday a large number of the Parents and children from Medways under 6 / 7's, braved the very wet and windy weather to do a 6 mile Sponsored Walk along the river Medway in Teston (Maidstone.) More
Misfiring in the first period and down 3 - 9 to a dtermined Crowborough side at half time, Medway came good in the second half, dominating possession and territory. Two penalties from Glenn Wadsworth brought the home side level, and a try from Roger Rhynheart took them into the lead for the first time. A brace from Ben Wadsworth, the first from a charged down clearance, and another at the death from a pinpoint crossfield kick from Glenn gave Medway the win by 26 - 9. Report and pictures. (Selected pictures are now available for sale from the Spitfire Tournament and the Brighton, Folkestone, Hastings, Horsham, and Crowborough matches.)
